Volkspower Racing made it to the summer break of the Corr series with momentum finally on there side. Team drivers Jeff and Troy both finally got on the podium and it seems as though they finally got there cars working to there liking, just need a little luck to make it through the field with some of the bad starts they have been given. Volkspower Rookie Corr drivers Eric and Leigh are both also feeling more comfortable in there rides and are both looking for more strong finishes in the second half of the season.

Next race will be September 17 and 18th back at Antelope Valley Raceway.

2007 CORR Rounds 3 & 4 at Pomona Fairplex

It was a decent weekend for Volkspower Racing, the cars worked better than the results that the drivers ended up with for the weekend. All four are looking to be up in the front June 9th and 10th at Chula Vista Raceway.

Thanks to Les Biernot for all the great pictures of Volkspower Racing

Check out the updated pictures in the picture section, along with Leigh's practice flip!

#354 Jeff Knupp

Round #3 6th Place

Round #4 DNF-26th place

Jeff had a great run in Round #3, started in the 26th place and was able to work his way through traffic and finish in a strong 6th place after 11 laps. He was looking forward to the inverted start from sat witch but him starting 7th, but it wasn't meant to be as he got smashed from behind on lap two witch destroyed a rear tire and sidelined him for the rest of the race.

Jeff is currently in the 10th position in points

#355 Troy Morgan

Round #3 7th Place

Round #4 DNF-25th place

Troy also a a solid run in round 3, started up front and had a couple small problems with traffic, but ran strong to a good finish. In round #4, Troy drove Leigh's car to see how it would do, but unfortunately rolled it in turn #1 on lap 2 and that was the end of his day.

Troy is currently in the 12th place in points

#357 Eric Greener

Round #3 DNF 21st Place

Round #4 15th place

Eric was finally feeling comfortable in his new ride and getting used to the racing, but a broken rear wheel sidelined him in Round #3. In round #4 his was running in the top 10 till a spin sent him back. He was able to work back to the 15th position at the end.

Eric is currently in the 20 position in points.

#353 Leigh "Flipper" Morgan

Round #3 DNF 25th place

Round #4 DNS

Leigh decided to check out the safety of her TOR/Volkspower Racing car in Saturday practice and flipped it over in turn #! on the second lap. Both her and the car were ok, just minor damage to the roof. Leigh went out in Round #3 strong, but she also had another car crash into her and damaged a rear tire putting her out of the race. On Sunday, she was feeling the pain from her Saturday flip and decided to sit the event out to get ready for the next event.

Leigh is currently in the 25th points position

#354 Jeff Knupp

Round #1 6th place

Round #2 9th place

Jeff had a good run both days, but problems close to the end dropped him back. He was running a solid 3rd on Saturday with one lap to go when he got caught up with 2nd place and stalled the car. By the time he got it restarted he was in 6th for the finish. On Sunday he was again battling in the top 5, when he got tangled up with a lapped car and that dropped him to 9th for the day. Jeff currently sites in the 8th spot in points.

355_CORR_oo8863

#355 Troy Morgan

Round #1 10th place

Round #2 13th place

Troy also had a good run going both days. On Saturday he was running up front in the top 5 when he got sideways in a turn. Unfortunately Jeff in the #354 car had already committed to the inside where Troy started to spin and Jeff ran into him spinning him into the burm where he was stuck for a bit. He was able to get back going but only to 10th. On Sunday Troy started from the pole position and ran in the top 3 till a broken rear wheel on the 5th lap dropped him to mid pack for the finish. Troy is currently 12th in points.

353_CORR_oo8866

#353 Leigh Morgan

Round #1 18th place

Round #2 16th place

Volkspower racings newest driver made her professional racing debut in rounds #1 & #2, and the results don't do her justice for how well she did. Leigh got caught up in a first lap, first turn crash in round 31 and fell almost a whole lap back, so she never had a chance to do much racing. But her lap times were fast and she had a  clean run.  On Sunday she again had a good run, but the engine developed a miss half way through the race, but she was able to still stay on the lead lap and finish strong. She also recorded a fast lap time that was 8th fastest in the class, and only .300 slower than Troy's! Good job Leigh! Leigh is currently 16th in points.

357_CORR_oo8867

#357 Eric Greener

Round #1 20th place

Round #2 17th place

Eric Greener made his short coarse racing debut in Rounds #1 & #2, and for finishing the car less than 24 hours before the first event he was pleased with the outcome of the weekend. Eric also got caught up in the crash in round #1, but unlike Leigh, was stuck there for over a lap and was never in contention. He used the rest of the race to get use to the car and figure out what changes were needed. On Sunday, he fought some steering issues and dueled it out with teammate Leigh to finish 17. Eric is currently 17th in points.

The team has spent a lot of time the past two weeks working on there suspension setups, and has a big test session planned to get the cars dialed in for much better runs in Rounds #3 and #4. Jeff, Troy, Leigh and Eric would like to thank all there family and friends for the help at the first two rounds, and would like to also thanks sponsors Maxxis Tires, Southwest Valley Sign-A-Rama, Parks Performance, Action Auto Gearboxes, Total Off Road, Napa Auto parts, Little Dealer-Little Prices, Public 128 Custom Graphics, Web Cam Shafts and Mobil Radio Communications for all there help and support.

Volkspower Racing Heads to Crandon, Wisconsin

Volkspower racings drivers Jeff and Troy will be heading east Labor Day weekend for the Borg Warner World Championships.

Jeff and Troy struggled with gearing at the World Championship weekend in Crandon. Troy was able to get a 9th place finish on Saturday, and than fell to 13th on Sunday. Jeff struggled with a faulty shifter on Saturday and finished 12th, and than had a good run on Sunday but was only able to place 12th again. Thanks to Maxxis Tires and Napa Auto parts for making Crandon Possible, and to Dircks and Porter Racing for hauling Jeff's car back to AZ. Next stop is Chula Vista September 23 and 24.

Volkspower Racing Leads CORR West Coast Points!
The Single Buggies were running Rounds 3-4 of the Western Sportsman Division at Chula Vista. A 3 rd consecutive podium in Round 3 keeps Jeff Knupp in the lead with 59 points. Kevin Graves moved into 2 nd place with 48 points after a pair of 4 th place finishes. Graves has finished 4 th in every race at Chula Vista so far in 2006. Troy Morgan sits in 3 rd place with 45 points. A strong start in Round 3 was not enough as a 13 th place finish resulted in the drop in the points standings for Morgan.

He faught hard and work his way through traffic to pass 22 cars in 15 laps. Jeff on the other hand got another great start, was running in the 3rd place halfway through lap 3 when he was tapped in a corner and spun out. The car stalled, and by the time he got it restarted he was in the 22nd place. He than worked his way back through the pack to end up in the 9th place.

Volkspower Racing Wins Round 3 of the CORR West Coast Series!

Volkspower racings Driver Jeff Knupp pulled the whole shot in round 3 and outside of fellow Volkspower driver Troy Morgan had very little competition and cruised to and 11 second win! Troy, who lead for 2 laps early, got repassed by Jeff and ran second to him till the mandatory caution came out on lap 9. When the green was thrown on lap 10 Troy was hit by a fellow racer which gave him a front flat that he had to limp around on for the rest of the race and ended up in 12th place.

Volkspower Racing comes home with a top 10 at Crandon!

Volkspower racing's drivers troy and Jeff took turns in Troy's car in Corr's rounds 3 and 4 of the Midwest series at Crandon International Raceway in Crandon, Wisconsin. Troy suffered a rare DNF in Round 3 when he suffered ignition problems and a flat rear tire.  Jeff Then took over in Round 4 and ran a pretty trouble free race and ended up 9th in the 25 car class, not bad considering that before he took the green flag, the most he had driven Troy's car was around the block! Both cars are now being prepped for Corr's rounds 3 and 4 of the west Coast series on July 22-24 in Chula Vista, Ca.

July 23, Round 4, Chula Vista, CA

Volkspower Racing Scores 2 top 10 finishes in Round #4 of the CORR West Coast Series

Volkspower Racing Drivers Jeff Knupp and Troy Morgan came into round 4 confident and ready to go. Jeff held a 21 point lead in the single buggy class, while Troy had dropped from 2nd place to 4th, but was still in contention. Both drivers took to the track for early morning practice and found the cars right where they had left off from round 3.Troy Morgan, Car #355, 5th place

Troy got a horrible start when somebody next to him on the land rush start hit him and knocked him into the car on the other side of him. This caused a loss of momentum which sent him to the 24th spot early in the first lap. At that point he put on him game face and started picking his way through traffic and worked his way to the front. For this round, CORR decided not to have a mandatory caution lap at the middle of the race, which really turned out to hurt Volkspower Racing since it didn’t give the field a chance to bunch up this time after the bad starts. Troy pushed forward setting good lap times and moved up to 5th place at the checkered.

“The start really hurt me today. But I guess that’s part of racing and you can’t win them all! Other than the start the car worked and handled great, just need the caution flag or a couple more laps and I think I could have pulled out a top 3.”

Jeff Knupp, Car #354, 9th place

Jeff got another great start and found himself in 3rd place for the first 2 laps. On lap 3 heading into turn 7, he got a little sideways and somebody behind him hit his right rear which spun him around and stalled the car. He sat there for what seemed to be eternity until the car restarted and he was able to turn it around. At this point Jeff had dropped to the 23rd spot; Jeff knew he had to make up as many positions as possible before the checkers came out to maintain his points lead. The rest of the race went flawless and he came home in 9th position.

“I got another great start today, but the cards just didn’t fall right. I got a little sideways in the turn and the next thing I felt was a bump and than I was completely sideways and then was facing the wrong direction! At that point I knew I needed to pick up as many spots as possible to help in the points. Sure could have used the full course caution today!”

Jeff Left Chula Vista with a 11 point lead in the West Coast Single Buggy division, with Troy moving up to the 3rd position. The next race for the two will be a non-points race for them when they head back east to Crandon, Wisconsin for the Borg Warner World Championship Race Sep 2-3.

Jeff and Troy would like to throw out a huge thanks to all there sponsors that make all this possible: MAXXIS Tires, NAPA Auto Parts, Gear-1, Southwest Valley Sign-A-Rama, Action Auto Gearboxes, FOX Shoxs, VP Fuel and Total Off Road.

Volkspower Racing Wins Round 3 of the CORR West Coast Series!

Volkspower Racing drivers Jeff Knupp and Troy Morgan headed into rounds 3 and 4 separated by 1 point in the Championship chase, and both were prepped and ready for another great weekend at Chula Vista.  Friday, afternoon (July 21st) practice was good for both drivers on the new track layout as Jeff in the #354 car went out and set fastest lap of the day for the 5 lap practice, and Troy in the #355 car was 3rd fastest out of the 23 cars that took to the track.  Friday evening was spent doing some last minute prep and both cars were set for the next day. Saturday morning both Jeff and Troy again took to the track for a 3 lap practice with Jeff again leading the pack and Troy 4th fastest.

Jeff Knupp, Car #354, 1st place

Jeff lined up in the 8th starting spot in the middle of the front row, and when the green flag flew he grabbed the hole shot and lead the 29 car field into turn 1.  Jeff lead the first 2 laps until teammate Troy made a pass on him going into turn 3. Jeff followed Troy until the end of the lap when a red flag was thrown for multiple wrecks around the track. When the green came back out Jeff made a jump on Troy and passed him, but it left the door open for the 3rd place car to pass them both. Jeff pushed the leader hard for a lap and as the two when into Turn 3 the leader caught a hole in the track and flipped handing the lead back to Jeff.  From there on it was smooth sailing and Jeff had a trouble free finish and stretched his lead out to 11 seconds at the finish!

“What a great run, everything worked great. The Maxxis tires really hooked up, and outside of some pressure early it was a smooth race. Can’t wait for the next round!”

Troy Morgan, Car #355, 12th place

Troy lined up in the 7th spot for the start, and got a good start until he missed 3rd gear, but it wasn’t enough to hurt him too bad as he was able to jump into the number 2 spot and follow Jeff for the first 2 laps until he made a pass on him for the lead. After the red, he dropped to 3rd, and than moved back up to second which he held until the mandatory yellow.  When the green came out again, Troy got hit from behind which pushed him towards the turn 2 wall where he was run into by a couple more cars.  Somewhere in the mayhem, Troy suffered a front flat and had to limp the car around for the next 6 laps and brought home 12th place.

“I had a good run going to the restart after the yellow and just got pushed out of the way and the rest was history. The flat was just bad luck; we will be back ready to go for round #4.”

Jeff and Troy would like to throw out a huge thanks to all their sponsors that make all this possible: MAXXIS Tires, NAPA Auto Parts, Gear-1, Southwest Valley Sign-A-Rama, Action Auto Gearboxes, FOX Shoxs, VP Fuel and Total Off Road.

Jeff and Troy would also like to thank there family and friends for all their support, and welcome the newest member of Volkspower Racing, Luke Jeffery Knupp born 6/29/06; he got to see his Daddy win at his first ever race!

May 20, Round 1, Chula Vista, CA

CORR Rookies, Volkspower Racing, finish Top 5 at the season opener!

Volkspower Racing single buggy drivers Jeff Knupp, #354 and Troy Morgan, #355 racing in their first ever CORR event both come home with top 5 finishes in the 29 car field.

Jeff, a seasoned desert racer, got a great start from the 14th spot in the second row and found himself up in the top 3 for the first few laps. Around lap 4 he was able to overtake 2nd and set his sights on the leader. Jeff was slowly making up ground when CORR threw the mandatory 2 lap caution on lap 9 to bunch the field up for a 6 lap shootout. On the restart, Jeff charged hard and overtook the leader for a short time and than actually ran into him when he got sideways in a turn which pushed Jeff over a berm and slightly off course which allowed 3rd place to get by him. Jeff was able to gather it back up and charge after the front runners and retake 2nd on lap 14 of 17 but there wasn’t enough time to catch 1st place.

“Today was great, I really wasn’t sure what to expect out of this car and this type of racing. I really want to give a big thanks to Maxxis Tires, they really helped us with grooving and air pressures that I’ve never had to deal with before. The tires really hooked up, it seemed that I could put the car where ever I wanted and it would stick. I can’t wait for round #2!”

Troy, a motor sport rookie, started in the #25 spot and also got a good start that put him up front until he got to turn 1 where he got pushed up high and lost quite a bit of ground. He battled against a lot of traffic but just couldn’t seem to get down low where the car would work better for him. When the caution came out at lap 9 Troy found himself in the 15th position and used this time to calm himself down for the final laps. When the green came back out, Troy charged hard to the front, using the low line to his advantage and finished in 5th

“What a day, this stuff is great! The car was really working good and stuck in the low groove with these Maxxis tires. Once I was able to calm myself at the start I was able to start picking better lines and slowly worked up to the front.

Jeff and Troy would like to thank all their sponsors including; NAPA Auto Parts, MAXXIS Tires, Gear-1, Southwest Valley Sign-A-Rama, Action Auto Gearboxes, FOX Shoxs, VP Fuel and Volkspower Racing for making this all possible.

May 21, Round #2, Chula Vista, CA

Volkspower Racing Rocks Round #2 at Chula Vista!

Volkspower Racing drivers Troy Morgan #355 and Jeff Knupp #354 finish 1-2 in their 2nd ever CORR single buggy race!

Troy, who started in the 12th spot on the front row got the hole shot from the land rush start and lead green flag to checker in the 17 lap single buggy race. His only competition came after the caution came out on lap 9 and bunched the field up which put his teammate, Jeff on his rear bumper. The last 6 laps were great to see as the 2 Volkspower cars dueled it out, but Troy had enough to cross the finish line, 2 car length in front of Jeff!

“This is awesome”, said Troy. “I can’t believe I’m standing here, what a race. With these Maxxis Tires hooking up great and my Volkspower horsepower I was able to grab the hole shot. “

Jeff, who started in the 15th spot on the front row, had a little more work to do to get up front. He fought with about 3 cars for the first 3 laps until he moved into the 2nd spot, and then took a hard impact to the right rear tire on lap 4 that almost flipped him over.  Jeff was not able to get close enough to Troy until the yellow flag came out. On the restart Jeff charged after Troy, but Troy was able to get off the corners better and Jeff took a close 2nd place.

“Another great finish”, stated Jeff. “I was so happy to see Troy out front that I almost forgot that I needed to race him for the win. This was great for Maxxis Tires and Napa to finish 1-2 in our first year of CORR”!

Jeff now leads the single buggy points after 2 rounds of racing by 1 point over Troy. Rounds 3 and 4 will be July 22-23 back at Chula Vista International Raceway.

2006 Best In The Desert Schedule

Feb 2-5, Blue Water Casino Parker 425, Parker AZ

2nd place, Class 2000 (1/2 1600)

Volkspower Racing starts the 2006 BITD campaign out strong at the Parker 425

Jeff Knupp and Eric Greener, the Volkspower Racing team, fresh off their 2005 Whiplash Overall Points Championship decided it was time to test their skills in a much larger arena. They decided to enter the Volkspower 1-2-1600 Hot Rod in the 2006 “Best In The Desert” series and go after Rookie of the Year honors and the Class 2000 Points Championship!

Just weeks before the big race, Gear One King Pin Keith Ayers brought Jeff a newly designed Gear One micro stub kit fresh off the CNC machine to test out on the Volkspower Hot Rod before a full production run is made.  All of the Gear One pieces went together perfectly and the car was ready to splash a wave of destruction at the Blue Water!  With all of the plans and preparation done it was time to set off for the BITD Blue Water Casino Parker 425.  The Volkspower Team made the trip to Parker on Friday morning and got right to business; the car came off the trailer fast and was looking forward to spanking the competition come Saturday!  All things went well for Contingency and Tech on Friday and were capped off by a very informative Drivers meeting held by BITD for all of the competitors participating in tomorrow’s race.

Saturday finally came and the Volkspower Race Team was ready to take on both the brutal conditions of the Parker Desert and the tough competitors of the 2000 class!  Jeff was going to start the race and do the first lap, turn the car over to Eric for the second lap and then get back in and finish up the 425 mile event.  The day started off well, Jeff drew the 3rd starting position for the class and within the first five miles had taken the class lead.  He continued his cautious yet persistent approach in tackling the 425 mile race course.  Everything was going as planned and he had built a solid 10 minute lead on the class until an untimely flat slowed his progress.  Fortunately Jeff stopped by some local spectators and they quickly changed the flat and he was on his way, but you know the saying when it rains it pours.  Just after getting under way again the car developed a steering problem and thought that it need to test the durability of its roof…..After a tense moment of climbing out of the car Jeff began the tedious task of over turning the race car himself.  This process took about forty-five grueling minutes, while rectifying the situation of roof testing; nine Class 2000 cars went by creating that sinking feeling in Jeff’s stomach!  Once the car was on all four wheels Jeff began the quick assessment of what had happened, he was able to locate a parts failure in the steering shaft which was repaired quickly and then he completed lap one getting the car to the main pits.  With a Splash of fifteen gallons of VP Fuel and a once over of the car the driving duties now belonged to Eric.  The second lap started out good, passing one of the nine cars in the first five miles and that continued to be the trend of the lap. By Midway, he had made up ten minutes on the lead cars and had reported no problems.  Just outside of the Mineral Wash Eric had passed the 4th and 3rd place cars and was now closing back in on 2nd place, he brought the car back around to the main pits for its final service and driver change.  Jeff would now get back in and try to run down the two lead cars.  He would leave the main pits about three minutes behind second and thirty-five minutes behind the lead car.  Charging hard through a much deteriorated race course he was able to take over the second position, but ran out of time to catch the leader.  When Jeff crossed the finish line and got out of the car he was amazed at what this car went through and how good everything performed.  The new Gear One Micro Stubs performed flawlessly, the Action Auto Gear Box shifted superb, the Fox Shocks dampened the most abusive bumps and BFG Tires navigated the entire course to perfection!  In the end the Volkspower Team had successfully finished the Parker 425 in second place with a finishing time of 9:56.24!

This was a good way to start off the New Year and campaign for the Championship!  Jeff and Eric would like to give Special Thanks to the following:  Morgan’s West Valley Napa, Gear One, Action Auto Racing Gearboxes, Fox Shoxs, BFGoodrich Tires, VP fuel, and all of our Friends and Family!

April 28-30, Terrible's 250, Pahrump NV

The second race of the Best in the Desert series was not a good one for the Volkspower Racing team. Jeff started the 250 mile race 5th in class, and after about 5 miles he started to close in on the front running cars. At around mile 10, the motor started to make some noise and Jeff felt the power going away and then he also noticed smoke comming from the breather so he pulled over to find that he had burnt the #1 piston in the motor. This is the first motor failure Volkspower Racing has had in over 5 years!  The good news is that Jeff nad the team have a 6 point lead in the class points for the end of the year championship.
